Rights and Permissions

The Clement C. Maxwell Library offers public access to the materials in its archival and rare book collections as a contribution to education and scholarship.

Some materials in the collections may be protected by copyright. Reproduction of protected items beyond that allowed by fair use requires the written permission of the Clement C. Maxwell Library and/or the copyright owners. Materials out of copyright are considered to be in the public domain.

Fair Use

Audio, video, text and digital image files from web sites published by the Clement C. Maxwell Library may be used for private study, scholarship and research purposes under the provisions of Fair Use (United State code, Title 17, section 107) which allows limited use of copyrighted materials under certain conditions. Under Fair Use, files may be viewed, printed, photocopied, or downloaded without prior permission, provided proper attribution of the source is noted on all copies.

Educational and Commercial Use

The Clement C. Maxwell Library allows educational use of its images at no cost. If you wish materials for publication or any other commercial purpose, higher quality images are available for a nominal fee. All other copyright holders retain full rights and should be contacted directly.

Re-Publication

It is inappropriate to link to any one section of any Clement C. Maxwell Library web site or to embed a portion from these sites internal to your own web site, since this obscures the nature of our publication. A link to the entire site is required.

Citations, quotations, and use of digital images and files from our collections made under Fair Use or with permission of the copyright holder must acknowledge their source as: Clement C. Maxwell Library, Bridgewater State University, Bridgewater, Massachusetts.
